Playdough Recipe

A recipe for playdough is a recipe for endless creativity and fun! However the search engines won't know that unless that recipe for playdough has hidden ingredients. Those hidden ingredients are the schema mark-ups that tell the search engine that this is a recipe. They also tell important details about the recipe.

To make this playdough recipe have the hidden ingredients I placed JavaScript in my blogger template that should read my post, find if it includes a recipe, mark-up the ingredients, directions, and nutritional information and then return the information in a section below the post looking like a recipe page from a cook book.

Playdough recipe makes this the most pliable homemade playdough

Tools Needed to Make Playdough

To make this playdough recipe you will need the following tools:
  • Medium to large bowl.
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing utensil such as a fork or butter knife

Playdough Ingredients

This playdough recipe  only uses 6 ingredients, which most people have at least one of the ingredients on hand.

  • Flour – The base ingredient for this playdough recipe.  Your everyday all purpose flour will make a nice white playdough. (I suggest a bleaced all purpose flour for the whitest playdough.)  You will need 2 cups to 2 and 1/2 cups of flour.
  • Salt – The playdough can't be playdough without salt. (I suggest using a white salt for the whitest playdough). You will need 1 tablespoon of salt.
  • Distilled white vinegar – The distilled vinegar along with the next ingredient are what make this playdough pliable. You will need 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar.
  • Cooking oil – Any cooking oil you have on hand can be used to make playdough. (I suggest using safflower or coconut oil as they are lightest in color for the whitest playdough). 1 tablespoon of cooking oil helps make this playdough pliable.
  • Water – This one you most likely have on hand, or you better get some so you can live. You only need 1/2 cup of water to make this playdough. Since we have our two pliability inhibitors adding moisture, this recipe doesn't require as much water as other playdough recipes.
  • Food coloring – This ingredient will make your white playdouh colorful. 1 box of food coloring of you choice is enough to make some pretty colorful playdough.

Directions to Make Playdough

The directions to make the playdough are simple and can be prepared in about 20 minutes.

  1.  Put 1 tablespoon salt, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of oil in a medium to large mixing bowl.
  2.  Add the flour 1 cup at a time, mixing in between cups to ensure the ingredients are mixed well.
  3.  If playdough is too sticky add 1/4 cup of flour at a time until the dough no longer sticks to your hands.
  4.  For several different colors of playdough separate the dough into sections to color them individually.
  5.  Add your choice of food coloring to the different dough sections. If using a wet food coloring agent please note that you may need to add a bit more flour as the liquid food coloring will cause the dough to become sticky.
  6.  Store the playdough in an airtight container.

There you have it! A super easy, fast, & fun to make playdough recipe and hopefully our hidden mark up as well. Now it won't be such a big deal throwing out that hard, crusty glob of playdough your kids left out of the container.
